Mostly due to Real Life commitments, I’ve drifted away from CSI over the past few years. I’ve caught a few episodes here and there, but nothing coherent, so perhaps that’s why I have no clue about some of the vibes going on in the show.
I have very little to say on the case itself, mainly because I’ve seen a lot of what whacky stuff CSI has come up with over the past…twelve seasons? I feel old now. This…didn’t really rate. Well, except for the B-plot, but I like my dinner where it is, and I’m sure others do as well, so we’re not going to talk about new dangerous ways of skinning deer and people doing stupid things to themselves.
First of all, D.B. Russell…is a very very strange man. It was nice to see him as a person, with a wife and child (children?), who is good with kids and knows how to do his job. After seeing that side of him, the strange side of him made even less sense. It’s like his characterization suffers from personality whiplash, where he’s this nice guy and investigator one moment and crazy “communing with the spirits” person the next. It’s a little off-putting. I hope the writers smooth that one out.
Second, what the h*** Catherine and Nick? Seeing the two of them at each other’s throats was completely unexpected, but based on hints scattered throughout the episode, I’m assuming that this has something to do with whatever happened last season that I don’t want or need to get into. Okay. I’m just hoping that this doesn’t become the cause of Catherine’s untimely/unhappy departure from the Las Vegas Crime Lab. Can’t people be promoted to jobs elsewhere and have it be a happy departure instead of an angst-ridden one?
Third, … seriously? Tentacle sex? Really? (Wait, no, don’t answer that. I understand kink, I do, but
there are just some things I don’t want to know about. Ever.)
Beyond that, it was nice to see the old crew again. Also, the promo with Sara webcam-chatting with Grissom…The dry humor made me smile. I might peek in next week to see what’s going on…but Mythbusters always comes first in my heart (sorry CBS, but controlled explo—I mean, science! Science will always comes first! =D)
